The state drama Theater of Uzbekistan began its independent activity as the theatre “Young Guard” in 1968. In 1968, Masafayev, who followed the theater, was appointed chief Director. The youth theater of that time was founded in 1968 under the leadership of the head of Uzbekistan at that time Sharaf Rashidov. This theater was born as the first contemporary State Theater, which expresses the life of Republican youth.

The first Swallows of this theater, which was originally called “Young Guard", were Ergash Masafayev, Shirin Azizova, Aziza Begmatova, Damon Rejamatov, Mirsoat Usmonov, and later a group of young people came to this troupe as wise Bobokhonova, Madina Duraeva, Noila Toshkenboeva, Asror Toshkenboev, Malika Ibragimova. Director Ergash Uzaqaev begins to stage a series of works related to the youth life of world and Uzbek dramatists.

Since 1976, Bakhtiyor Ikhtiyorov has been appointed as the main director of the theater and staged such plays as “victims of Love” by Hamza Hakimzadeh Niyazi, “bride and groom” by Mar Bayzhiev, “unnamed arrow” by Immortal Umarbekov, “thirty-year-olds” by Mashrab Babayev, “father's daughter” by Isfandiyor.
